Dave The Diver puts players in the shoes of a diver out exploring the freshly discovered part of the ocean called the Blue Hole, all the while managing a functional restaurant and opening a fish farm on the side.
Initially, Dave can only explore the ocean during the day. But, as the game progresses and he gains new tools, he will be able to go for a dip when the sun’s down for some Night Fishing.
How To Unlock Diving At Night
Night Fishing unlocks after you’ve progressed the main story to Chapter 2 and completed the Sea People Language Translator quest for Dr. Bacon. Once the prerequisites are met, Otto, an angry customer, will interrupt your normal morning routine one day and ask for a Moray Eel, initiating ‘A Noisy Customer’ mission. But there is a catch: Moray Eels only come out at night. So, to catch one, you’ll have to wait for the night to fall and then go diving.
If you’ve progressed the story to this point, you will have obtained a headlamp naturally in order to navigate the Blue Hole Depths, as the sunlight doesn’t shine so far down. With this headlamp in hand, Dave will be able to navigate the Blue Hole at night as well, allowing him to go Night Fishing.
How To Catch The Moray Eel
The Moray Eel roams the shallow waters of the Blue Hole at night. Once you start your dive, you’ll find this eel swimming in open waters by its lonesome. It is an aggressive fish, indicated by a red dot over its sprite. And, if you’re finding it as part of Otto’s mission, it will have a blue diamond hovering over its sprite as well. Deal damage to the eel using your harpoon or gun, then swim over to it its carcass to add it to your inventory.
Day Fishing vs. Night Fishing
Some fish—like the Moray Eel—are nocturnal and only come out at night, making their capture during the day impossible. Finding these fish is only going to be possible during the night. But come prepared; the number of predator fish also increases at night. It’s recommended you upgrade Dave’s gear before going for a nightly swim.
For time-sensitive quests like VIP requests, Night Fishing can give you a hail-mary chance at finding some crucial ingredients at the last minute.
And, unlike fishing during the day, Night fishing is a double-edged sword. The Sushi restaurant is only going to operate if Dave’s there to do the serving. If you decide to go Night Fishing, this will cut into the time the restaurant would otherwise have been open, resulting in lost time and fewer customers to serve. Any dive during the night takes up about one-third of the night, reducing restaurant profits by 33%.
Night fishing should only be used to find rare fish, complete missions, and gather MarineCa cards. Once you’ve explored the Blue Hole three or four times during the night, there remains little reason to go down there unless otherwise required.
