Recently, a moment of joy turned into sorrow for some people in Mumbai. A couple visited a beach in Mumbai along with the family. Suddenly they got swept away by a huge wave. The wife drowned in the sea immediately leaving behind her family.
In the backdrop of this, a 26-second video of few people got swept in the waves is going viral on social media. It can be seen in the video that two people suddenly swept away by huge waves and drowned. The viral video is said to be from Mumbai’s Bandra.
However, Fact Crescendo found the claim to be misleading. The video is not from Mumbai but from Oman
What’s the claim?
Sharing the video, social media users are claiming that this is an incident from Bandstand beach in Mumbai where both the people who were swept by the flood couldn’t survive.
Fact Check-
A Google Reverse Image Search on a keyframe of the viral video led us to NDTV’s report published on 14 July 2022. According to the report, this incident took place in Oman. The victims were Indians from Maharashtra. In the incident, a man and his 6 years old son passed away while his 9-year-old daughter went missing after they were engulfed by waves.
This video was shot by a tourist at the site. The video showed the two children being swept away by the waves. Their father ran to save them but he also washed away in the sea and got drowned.
We found the same video uploaded on Mirror Now’s official YouTube Channel on 14 July 2022. According to the report, this incident took place in Oman’s Salalah Beach where a man from Maharashtra and his two kids swept away by strong waves. The family went on a trip to Oman to celebrate Eid. Rescuers recovered the man and his son’s body but his daughter went missing.

Woman Drowned in sea in Mumbai –
On 16 July 2023, a 27-year-old woman drowned in the sea in Bandra, Mumbai. The video of this incident is also going viral on social media. According to news, the woman was sitting on a rock to take a picture with her husband. Her three children were watching them from a distance and clicking photos.
Conclusion:
Fact Crescendo found the claim to be misleading. The viral video is from Oman where an Indian family swept way and drowned in the sea in 2022. This video is not a recent incident from Bandra, Mumbai.
