From Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez to current Real Madrid star Joselu, La Liga stars have chosen to take their vows at some of the stunning places in Spain. Here are some of the sneak peeks of their wedding destinations.
Mallorca
Atlético de Madrid player Marcos Llorente married Paddy Noarbe this summer in Mallorca. The couple, who have been together since 2013, got engaged in 2021 at the Estadio Cívitas Metropolitano and this year they said ‘I do’ in La Fortaleza de Albercuitx in Pollença (Mallorca).
Coincidentally, the setting chosen by the Rojiblanco player is the same one used by Rafa Nadal for his wedding. Pollença is located in the north of the island of Mallorca and is known for its beautiful coves and the Faro de Formentor lighthouse, one of the most magical landmarks in Mallorcan town.
Costa Brava
Another destination various La Liga footballers have opted for is the Costa Brava (Girona), located in the north of Catalonia. This was the case with Xavi Hernández, the current FC Barcelona coach, who married his wife, Núria Cunillera, in the botanical garden of Blanes.
This summer, the Barça coach and his wife celebrated 10 years of marriage. The Costa Brava is undoubtedly one of the ideal destinations for enjoying good weather and golden sandy beaches, all while taking in the old fishing villages with their little white houses. As a holiday destination, the Costa Brava is always a good choice.
Seville
There was no way the capital of Andalusia could be missing from this list. In 2015, in the Cathedral of Seville, Ivan Rakitić tied the knot with his wife Raquel Mauri. They picked Seville, as it’s a city that leaves an incredible impression and that is known for being special, as well as for its culture, its gastronomy and its people.
Sergio Ramos, the former Sevilla FC and Real Madrid player, also chose the Cathedral of Seville to marry his wife, Pilar Rubio, while another Spanish player to have married in the city is Jesús Navas, the Sevilla FC captain and Rakitić’s teammate.
Madrid
From the capital of Andalusia we move on to the capital of Spain, Madrid. Joselu, one of Real Madrid’s summer signings, married his wife Melanie Cañizares in 2016 in San Lorenzo del Escorial, located near the capital.
For another example, Nacho, the newly named captain of Real Madrid and Joselu’s teammate, also tied the knot in the Community of Madrid, doing so in Meco, a town southeast of the city. Nacho married María Cortés, his long-term girlfriend, in 2014. Madrid is always a good choice, a city where you can find everything: great museums, varied gastronomy and, of course, the Santiago Bernabéu.
Galicia
The north of Spain is another region frequented by La Liga players for their big day. This was the case when RC Celta star Iago Aspas married Jennifer, his lifelong girlfriend and mother of his two children, in Poyo, a coastal town located in the Rías Baixas region.
Although the climate can be a little rainy, Galicia is a perfect destination for escaping the heat and for enjoying some of the best seafood in Spain. Diego López, the former Real Madrid and Rayo Vallecano player, also chose Galicia as a wedding destination when he got married.
