A POPULAR Spanish hotel chain has opened its first accommodation in the UK, offering guests the “perfect” place to stay while visiting London.
The Riu Plaza London Victoria is a new four-star hotel with 435 rooms, located in central London in the heart of Westminster.
The accommodation is within walking distance of sites such as Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey and Big Ben.
The rooms at the Riu Plaza are both modern and comfortable and are decorated with contemporary wallpaper and watercolour paintings.
Many of the modern superior suites and rooms provide city views, but the most spacious rooms are located on floor -1 which the hotel has done to maximise space.
The Riu Plaza has a “contemporary minimalist design” and the structure is divided into two parts: the podium and the tower.
The podium has a circular glass tower that houses the reception area, which the designers hope offers a warm welcome to all guests.
When they arrive, customers will find themselves in a lobby with a conical dome “flooded by natural light from above”.
Meanwhile, the lobby bar offers a change of scene with a livelier atmosphere and a more colourful design where they can enjoy their food and drink.
Other food options are also available, including a restaurant where guests can eat a buffet breakfast in the morning, which is included in the room rate, while an à la carte dinner is an optional extra.
Guest can also use the fully equipped 24-hour fitness centre.
Riu claim the hotel is an “ideal base for exploring the city”as it is surrounded by “the UK capital’s most important sights and is close to strategic transport links”.
The international Riu chain was founded in Mallorca by the Riu family in 1953 as a small holiday firm and is still owned by the family’s third generation.
Stays in the Riu Plaza start from £170.10 per night in a deluxe queen room, while a night in the presidential suite will set you back £908.10.

Elsewhere, a brand new £250m holiday resort is opening in the UK with activity zones and forest lodges.
Work is underway to build the lavish holiday park in the Afan Valley in Wales.
According to Wales Online, the new £250m holiday park, Wildfox Resorts, will have 570 forest lodges and 130 apartments and rooms on the 132 hectare-site.
There will also be a range of indoor and outdoor activities like wild swimming, mountain biking, hiking, canyoning, and bouldering as well as two state-of-the-art zip wires.
While the park won’t open to the public until at least 2027, construction work has already started.
Meanwhile, Travelodge now has fancy new “luxury” hotels with rooms costing only £20.50pp per night.
And this little-known destination has stolen London’s crown as the world’s hotel hotspot.
