The IPL next season can be another groundbreaking one. After toppling all the broadcasting records in this edition, we may see even bigger success in this cricket extravaganza next year.

But there can be a major change in IPL next year as we prepare for it. IPL 2024 will have to adapt to a change next season, which we haven’t seen in a long time.
IPL 2024 will have to start by mid-March
With the growing stature of IPL, the time taken for the tournament has grown. Earlier, it used to be a month and ten days affair, but now it takes almost two months.
With Ten teams in the group stages and each team playing 14 matches, the window period for IPL requires a longer time and it is supposed to grow bigger in coming years with proposed enhancement in match numbers.
Generally IPL, over the years, have started in the first week of April or sometimes in March end. But The Indian Premier League will require to start by mid-March at the latest next season.
Why IPL 2024 will have to start early?
The IPL 2024 will need an earlier start because of the T20 World Cup next year. As per the latest reports, the T20 World Cup will commence from June 4. The tournament is set to be played in the United States of America and the Caribbean.
Hence, the IPL 2024 will also warrant an earlier start as a couple of weeks’ gap is needed between the two assignments. If we consider the Indian team moving to the USA by May 24 or 25, it means the IPL will have to end by mid-May at most.

And it will mean the IPL 2024 needs a mid-March start. The only time IPL started in mid-March was back in 2010, when the tournament kicked off on March 12, the earliest start in IPL’s history.
IPL 2024 Tentative Dates
Although nothing is confirmed, we can predict the IPL 2024 Final will be played either on May 12 or May 19 next year. With these two days being Sundays, it is the most feasible option for BCCI to conclude the tournament, as they simply can’t afford to delay it anymore.
A May 12 Final will be ideal for the players, as it will give them the opportunity to recuperate before the T20 World Cup. And in order to finish it by May 12, the IPL needs to start by March 15.
