Paul had been unbeaten prior to that loss, having triumphed over Anderson Silva, Tyron Woodley and Ben Askren – with hope remaining that if he wins this bout it could bring that blockbuster influencer fight against KSI that bit closer.
Diaz, meanwhile, is making his professional boxing debut and will compete for the first time in any discipline since winning his final UFC clash against Tony Ferguson in September.
Of course whatever the outcome of the fight, at The American Airlines Center in Dallas, it’s a lucrative business – and Paul is once again set to walk away with a decent pay day for the bout.
Just how much is he making from the Nate Diaz fight?
How much money is Jake Paul making from the Nate Diaz fight?
While the exact amount Paul stands to make isn’t confirmed, it’s been reported by the website Sports Payouts that he could net as much as $2m (£1.5m).
According to SportsZion, he earned $1.2m ($944,000) for his bout with Nate Robinson in 2020, and a further $2m when he went up against Tyron Woodley the following year.
The website Celebrity Net Worth currently values him at $60m (£47.2m).
By contrast, Nate Diaz is predicted by Sports News to make around $500,000 (£394,000) for the bout.
Diaz has been criticised for his lack of promotion for the bout, although Paul gave his opponent credit in a pre-contest interview which ended with him walking out prematurely.
‘He’s a warrior, he’s put on some of the greatest fights in the history of MMA,’ Paul said of Diaz.
‘He has an amazing fanbase, obviously people love him for a reason and I know he’s coming to bring a war. That’s what he says ‘Ready for f****ng war’.
‘I think the fans are the ones who get to win the most out of all of this because we both don’t want to lose and back down.’
