Brandon Miller, the No. 2 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft by the Charlotte Hornets, is still dealing with the fallout from a shooting that took place near Alabama’s campus in January.

A wrongful death lawsuit has been filed against Miller, who played basketball for one season at Alabama.

Miller is named in the complaint along with two of his former teammates, Darius Miles and Michael Davis.

The lawsuit stems from the death of Jamea Jonae Harris, and Harris’ family is filing the complaint.

Miles and Davis are facing capital murder charges in connection to the case, while Miller has not been charged with a crime.

Miller’s involvement in the shooting is in relation to him providing the weapon that was used in the shooting, an act that Miller’s attorney says he had no intention of doing.

According to Miller’s attorney, he simply intended to return the gun to its owner and had concealed it under other items in his vehicle before arriving at the scene.

The lawsuit says that the three basketball players “knew or should have known that bringing a dangerous weapon to a dispute and discharging said weapon would likely result in harm.”

The plaintiff’s attorney says that the family would like to hear testimony from all three individuals on the events that took place that night, and that “once we have had the opportunity to evaluate the evidence in the case, we can make decisions about the degree of culpability, if any, of each.”

Miller is set to make his official NBA debut next week when the Hornets open the 2023-24 season against the Atlanta Hawks.
