John Kavanagh talks Conor McGregor vs Jake Paul

Jake Paul earned $45million last year – ranking him well behind potential opponent Conor McGregor.

The YouTube star has made a huge fortune from his boxing and social media career in 2021 after he fought in mega-money bouts against Ben Askren and twice against Tyron Woodley.

Meanwhile McGregor was rewarded lucratively despite twice losing to Dustin Poirier last year and will be eyeing redemption this year.

However the Irishman’s earnings was calculated to be $180m in 2021 making him the highest earning athlete in the world for the year.

According to Forbes, McGregor earned an estimated $22m inside the cage with the rest of the earnings generated from other interests.

This includes the sale of his majority stake in Whiskey brand Proper Twelve to Proximo Spirits for around $150 million in April 2021.

His business created huge earnings while regularly being promoted on his social media which is another source of income for the UFC superstar.

Meanwhile the majority of YouTube star Paul’s earnings came from his three-fight boxing year which developed massively in 2021.

He fought Askren rallying to an early stoppage victory before challenging Woodley which he then won by split decision.

Paul was then set to meet British star Tommy Fury which may have earned him a significantly larger sum than fighting his eventual rematch with Woodley, who he brutally stopped in December.

However it was still a successful year for Paul who continued to raise his profile being ranked second in the YouTube list behind American streaming star Mr Beast.

Over 90 per cent of his earnings were generated from his boxing career with his previously top earning YouTube platform now often used as a promotion tool for his boxing ventures.

Jake’s brother Logan was ranked in ninth place on the YouTube list after his successful exhibition with undefeated star Floyd Mayweather earned him approximately $18m.

The show with Mayweather was a huge success selling over one million pay-per-views and generating a huge interest globally.

McGregor earned significantly less for competing in sport than football stars Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi who were ranked in second and third place on the athlete list earning $130m and $120m respectively.

But his successful business moves outside of the promotion have led to his wealth expanding further as seen after investing in a $2.8m custom Lamborghini yacht.

McGregor will be looking to continue to earn healthy purses within the UFC this year and will be looking for the biggest fights when he makes his return from a broken leg injury.
