The ‘liquid bob’ is the it-girl style that gives hair extra polish

Last year, we called it. Liquid hair is the super glossy hair trend that we predicted would go stratospheric. The ultimate clap-back to staying-in hair that’s been chucked up in a bun? Smooth, shiny, fluid strands – which btw, have been gaining some pretty major momentum over the past few months.

It’s a trend that picks up where glass hair left off. It’s sleek, it’s straight – the only difference? Liquid hair is more laid back. In a nutshell, it’s silky-straight, only softer.

Of course, it was only a matter of time before the sheeny style joined forces with 2022’s coolest cut, which from the looks of things – and after a very successful 2021 – remains the bob. So, we say this year, it’s all about the liquid bob.

We’ve seen the Queen Bee aesthetic beginning to shift from rebel cuts and shaggy styles (though they’re still a popular choice) to a more dialled-up glam. On the whole, people are more willing to invest in (and enjoy) time spent getting ready and styling their hair. Why would we choose to look ‘laid back’ when we could look glossy, phenomenal and ‘extra’?

Like the rise of ‘skinimalism’, which saw us focus on the condition of our skin before deciding what makeup to put on top of it, 2020 and 2021 saw many of us putting more impetus on the health of our hair. Increased masking and hair treatments mean we’re getting our kicks from seeing ultra-nourished looking strands. As for what’s making the cut, a big chop can help us get rid of dead ends – hence hair that looks even fresher.

But why stop there. The liquid bob is the no-makeup makeup equivalent of super shiny hair. And to level-up the finish, top hair stylists recommend keratin treatments for a semi-permanent just-blow-dried finish, without putting in the elbow grease.

Or for some at-home action, London hair pro Hollie Rose Clarke told GLAMOUR, “use IGK’s Good Behaviour Smoothing Spray (£27) or ColorWOW’s Dream Coat (£26) and straighten with your flat irons, then finish with the ColorWOW Extra Mist-ical Shine Spray (£26) or Kevin Murphy’s Shimmer Shine Spray (£25) for that glossy finish,” she says.
