The man from East London was amazed when Redbridge council upheld his having to pay a parking fine for a van he owned that was stolen then dumped by the side of the road. It incurred the ticket after the thieves left the vehicle stranded and it was tracked back to him.
Parking law expert Shaf Jade represents the man named John, and said his client had the Mercedes Sprinter van taken from outside his home in Woodford Green.
He reported the theft to the police immediately who managed to locate the van later that afternoon in Stratford.
John went to collect the vehicle, which had been marked with ‘Police aware’ however it had still been slapped with a parking ticket due to being on double yellow lines.
And that ended up being just the start of the man’s problems.

Bud Johnston, Group Marketing Manager at Rivervale leasing said: “Never overlook a parking fine, whether it’s from a council or a private company.
“If you feel like your ticket has been issued unfairly, it’s best to go through the proper channels to appeal. Research shows that three in five tickets are challenged successfully, so you could have a chance of overturning an incorrect fine.
‘However, think very carefully about your appeal and whether it’s worth it. Your fine could double or even triple if you take too long to pay.
