Taapsee Pannu and Tahir Raj Bhasin have begun the promotions of Looop Lapeta, all set to arrive on Netflix. The trailer, which was unveiled recently, takes you on an eventful journey as Savi (played by Taapsee Pannu) tries to save her boyfriend Satya (played by Tahir Raj Bhasin) when he loses cash belonging to a mobster. Savi races against the clock to save the day — if only she can make the correct choices as Satya’s freedom depends on it. The actress was recently in conversation with Bollywood Hungama talking about her upcoming film and how she has found a footing in both theatre and digital mediums.
In a recent conversation, Taapsee talked about being in the most fascinating phases of her career where she is not being dictated by the demand of the market. Taapsee Pannu said, “In the beginning, I used to think about the masses like ‘Yeah, only this kind of things work for audiences; so I should do only these kinds of films. I have made a few mistakes during the time I worked in South industry. After that, I started using my own head on what kind of films I would like to watch and I will only do those kind of work. Thankfully, what has worked in my favour is that I haven’t left that ‘audience’ mindset. I have not become an ‘actor’ when I select the film; I am still thinking as an audience. This has helped me choose films which audience also ends up feeling like ‘Yeah, we can watch this.’”
She continued, “I can’t be greedy as an actor. There are times when films are made where the actors have fabulous roles. You have full blown scope for performance but it sort of is weak as a film. I think that even if I perform well, the audience won’t be able to finish watching the film or if they finish it, they won’t recommend it. I don’t see the advantage in doing that kind of film. I have taken such decisions which have worked in my favour. When I came to Hindi cinema from South market, I never left South market. There are probably a lot of others who do that. I thought when I couldn’t act or didn’t have command over the language, that time these people liked me, accepted me, made me part of the industry. Now, I have learnt their language. I have learnt how to work in the industry so why will I uproot myself from a place where people like me. I never thought of uprooting myself from South and hence, I do one film every year consistently.”
The actress further explained, “Apart from that, I think I am probably the mid-way audience balancing between theatre and OTT. I am not an audience who is too much into a festival made film, nor am I an audience who enjoys total brainlessness also which is not entertaining enough. Somewhere I am an audience in between and hence, I have found an audience in theatre also and on OTT as well.”
Meanwhile, Looop Lapeta is an adaptation of Tom Tykwer’s celebrated cult classic Run Lola Run and the directorial feature debut of Aakash Bhatia. Produced by Sony Pictures Films India and Ellipsis Entertainment along with Aayush Maheshwari, Looop Lapeta is a fully packaged entertainer that brings together the elements of comedy, thriller and romance, all in one film. It arrives on Netflix on February 4, 2022.
