Watch: Texas Tech fans welcome Chris Beard back to Lubbock with NSFW chant

0

Texas Tech fans “welcomed back” their former head coach Chris Beard to Lubbock with a chant that was not safe for work on Monday night.

No, Texas Tech fans are never going to get over Chris Beard leaving them for in-state rival Texas.

Though the University of Texas is Beard’s alma mater, he was the Red Raiders’ men’s basketball coach first. In his five years in Lubbock, they made the NCAA Tournament three times, finishing as national runner-up in 2019. While Beard was a logical choice to replace Shaka Smart once he left for Marquette, he had to expect this was the kind of smoke he would get upon his Lubbock return.

Texas may be heading to the SEC sooner rather than later, but he is going to need earmuffs after this profanity-laden sort of homecoming by the fanbase who once cheered him on.

Texas Tech fans boo Chris Beard hellaciously upon his return to Lubbock

Beard’s rude awakening was a hellish landscape under the dark sky of a late January West Texas night. It may have been little brother wreaking havoc over pent-up frustration caused by their once-beloved head coach bailing on them. Though pain eventually heals, these scars are still fresh for Red Raider Nation. Expect for United Supermarkets Arena to be an total television spectacle.

There is a chance the ESPN 2 telecast live from Lubbock in primetime might have to go silent for a bit due to the raucous crowd. If there was ever a game to take a young and impressionable Texas Tech fan to a college basketball game, this would not be that game. Win or lose, that child will be returning home with a handful of new dirty words to say in their increasingly robust vocabulary.

Tipoff between No. 23 Texas and No. 14 Texas Tech at United Supermarkets Arena in Lubbock, Texas will be at 9:00 p.m. ET, 8:00 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Feb. 1.
