The Great Indian Murder, The Great Indian Murder review, Pratik Gandhi, Richa Chadha

The Great Indian Murder is adapted from Vikas Swarup’s 2008 novel Six Suspects and it has been layered upon the present-day India. Produced by Ajay Devgn Films, the series runs high on suspense and intensity. The writing by Vijay Maurya and Puneet Sharma shines through between the back-and-forth spin on the series. While we begin with the intention of witnessing one Great Murder, only to see people dropping dead left and right, murder is just another vertical to the series.

The series begins with cops finding two bloody corpses in the trunk of a car who happen to be minor girls. The car belongs to Vicky Rai (Jatin Goswami) who is one of the state legislators named Jagannath Rai (Ashutosh Rana). Vicky Rai is your typical misogynistic prick who is over his head with power. The guy is despised so much by everyone around him that when he drops dead, everyone around him could be a suspect.

The case then is transferred to the CBI, enters CBI officer Suraj Yadav (Pratik Gandhi) who is assigned to solve this case and he has the assistance of Sudha Bharadwaj (Richa Chadha) who is a cop as well. The mystery has been unfolding through timelines, but then there is also a plotline that is making its way from Eastern island territories all the way to Delhi. The mystery only doubles with every new plotline, be it a corrupt bureaucrat named Mohan Kumar or the masked YouTuber trying to expose the corrupt powers.

The Great Indian Murder seems like a good mashup between Sacred Games and Inside Edge with the excellence of director Tigmanshu Dhulia. The fun of the series is in the backstories of how the events went down. Talking about the actors, Pratik Gandhi did an excellent job as Suraj Yadav. The combination with Richa Chadha as Sudha Bharadwaj only makes things better. The casting was done perfectly as everyone is seen displaying a lot of range and the abilities of the character.

The high level of suspense is a result of the great writing, but the characters that start out with vengeance at the start of the series fall through by the end, we begin to welcome newer ones. While you will be focused on The Great Indian Muder, the fun lies in the intricate details. We do get a good amount of high octane chasing and shootout scenes giving some oomph to that edgy screenplay.
