A young lad has been given a reality check after spending a fortune on video game Fortnite.

Dad Gerry Grant posted on TikTok about how his unnamed son had spent around £80 on the hit game, and once he found out he decided to make him earn every single penny of it back.

And he set him to work doing chores and shop work until he did.

Posting on TikTok, the man captioned the video: “The new age of parenting.”

It shows his son filling shelves at the man’s place of work with food items, and also shows him emptying hundreds of loaves of bread from pallets onto shelves in the supermarket.

The father wrote, on the video which has had more than 2.7 million views: “My son decided to spend $100 on Fortnite off my credit card.

“Instead of punishing him, I will make him earn every penny.”

Having seemingly completed a full day’s work, the clip then shows the lad sleeping in his dad’s truck, accompanied by the caption: “He’s too tired, no time for games.”

Ironically, the youngster was wearing a Fortnite black hoodie in the video while he was working.

The boy spent the money on in-game items, which can cost anywhere from a few pence to several pounds per item – despite the game being initially free-to-play.

The life lesson went down well with social media users.

JackedtheDaniel wrote: “100 dollars at $12/hr, that’s over a full work day before taxes. Definitely teaching him how much money really is.”

Mooni Nightly added: “Now this is parenting done right.

“Parents of my parents generation have the: ‘I was beat as a child and I turned out fine’ mentality.”

Another user said: “Honestly this would help so many kids.

“They don’t get hit or yelled at, they just get taught a valuable lesson on nothing is free.”

And Jason Riley took a more pragmatic approach to the idea.
