RRR, directed by SS Rajamouli, grossed nearly ₹130 crores in its first week, only from the Hindi version. On Friday, the film grossed slightly more than Rs 18 crores. The film has shattered various pandemic era records worldwide, grossing more than ₹500 crores.
According to current patterns, the film could gross in the double digits on its second Friday, which is unusual. This is another victory for Rajamouli, who pioneered the concept of a pan-India hit with his two Baahubali films, which are still all-time box office smashes. RRR tells a fictionalised story set during the independence movement, starring Jr NTR and Ram Charan, with guest appearances by Ajay Devgn and Alia Bhatt. RRR debuted at a time when The Kashmir Files, a holdover smash, was approaching the Rs 250 crore mark nationally. Beginning April 1, the movie will have competition from John Abraham’s Attack.
