Greens senator Sarah-Hanson Young took a mini-break from the election campaign to tie the knot with partner Ben Oquist on Saturday.
The South Australian MP and her beau — who is the executive director of left-leaning think tank The Australia Institute — were married in front of 80 friends and family at Lobethal Road Wines in the Adelaide Hills.
Senator Hanson-Young announced the marriage on Easter Sunday, posting to social media that it was “the most perfect day”.
“Because of COVID, my side of the family, the family who live in Victoria, and Ben’s side of the family who live in NSW haven’t actually met until now, so it’s a lovely bringing together of the two families,” she said.
Mr Oquist once worked as chief of staff to former Greens leader Bob Brown, who was among the guests at the wedding.
The couple got engaged this year while on Kangaroo Island celebrating Senator Hanson-Young’s 40th birthday — after Mr Oquist had asked permission from both their daughters.
Senator Hanson-Young was the youngest woman elected to Federal Parliament when she first won her seat at the age of 25 in 2008.
