A group of Good Samaritans helped prevent a tragedy in Boynton Beach, Fla. after a woman had a medical episode while stopped in traffic earlier this month.

According to video released by the Boynton Beach Police Department, a group of six or seven bystanders sprang into action May 5 after a woman was seen slumped over her steering wheel as her car slowly rolled through a red light and into a busy intersection.

A co-worker of the stricken woman noticed what was happening and ran alongside the vehicle while trying to get additional help from other drivers in the area, according to a report by WPBF 25 News.

A handful of others jumped in to get the car stopped in the oncoming lanes and prevented it from being slammed into by a driver unaware of what was going on.

“I had just got off of work so I was like, let me stop at Home Depot because usually, I would’ve been in that straight lane going home,” Good Samaritan Davita Peele, a mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service, told WPBF. “I helped someone avoid getting into an even worse accident.”

After getting the vehicle stopped, one man scrambled to get something — he returned with a dumbbell — to break a window and allow them access to the unconscious woman.

A nurse who was in a nearby parking lot called 911 and attended the woman until the fire department arrived, police said.

Cops released the video in the hopes of identifying the other Good Samaritans so they could be honoured for their courage and reunited with the woman.

“They are heroes and we want to bring them back together at the police department to recognize them and meet the woman they rescued,” police said.
