Adele’s highly-anticipated, two-hour special Adele: One Night Only with Oprah Winfrey aired on Sunday, November 14 on CBS.

Not only did the “Easy On Me” hitmaker help orchestrate a marriage proposal for her fans during her concert, she also dropped many references to Saturn—something that viewers at home were quick to notice.

In addition to sporting a new Saturn tattoo, the Grammy-Award-winner was also wearing Saturn earrings.

Here’s the meaning behind Adele’s new tattoo…

The Meaning Behind Adele’s Planet Tattoo Explained

Adele: One Night Only saw the London-born star perform songs from her upcoming studio album, 30, as well as classics like “Hello” and “Make You Feel My Love.”

Intersected between the concert were insightful snippets of her interview with TV legend Oprah Winfrey, where she revealed details on her divorce from her husband, Simon Konecki, her anxiety, weight loss, and complicated relationship with her late father.

There was a lot for fans to digest from the interview, but from the outset many were drawn to the numerous allusions to the planet Saturn by the singer, and were quick to point it out on social media.

Not only was she sporting her tattoo, but Adele was also wearing Saturn earrings for her performance at the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles, with many fans suspecting the accessory choice was deliberate.

One fan tweeted: “I am loving all of the “Saturn Return” symbolism #Adele has going on: her earrings, tattoo, and performing at the Griffith Observatory.”

Another wrote: “The Saturn earrings, The Saturn tattoos It’s Adele’s Saturn Return and we get from row seats. #Adele #OneNightOnly.”

A third fan added: “I knew it! This album #Adele revolves around her #saturnReturn the #Saturn earrings and tattoo says it all. I’m currently going through mine and it’s no joke.”

Adele did not address the significance of Saturn during her interview with Oprah, but she recently did explain her love for the planet in an interview with Vogue and its wider meaning.

She said: “Then I hit my Saturn return. It’s where I lost the plot.”

Adele then proceeded to show the interviewer, Abby Aguirre, her Saturn tattoo which she got inked onto her right forearm in summer 2019.

In astrology, Saturn return takes place every 27 to 29.5 years, when Saturn returns to its location in the sky when you were born.

The process of Saturn return signifies the moment a person really comes of age and is often followed by big life choices, explains Cosmopolitan.

In the Vogue interview, Adele shared “when that [Saturn return] comes, it can rock your life.”

She continued: “It shakes you up a bit: Who am I? What do I want to do? What makes me truly happy? All those things.”

Shortly after the two-hour special aired on CBS, Adele posted some behind-the-scenes snaps of her performance and interview on her Instagram.

She captioned the selection of photos of her performance with eight Saturn planet emojis, further confirming her love for the planet.

Adele will release her fourth studio album, 30, on Friday, 19 November.

Adele: One Night Only is available to stream on Paramount Plus now.
