AN expert has revealed the two kinds of hotel rooms you should never book next time you are on holiday.
The advice will mean you get a much better night’s sleep and won’t be disturbed by noisy people.
Martin Seeley, CEO and sleep expert at MattressNextDay, explained: “When booking your room, consider requesting a room that’s on a higher level as that way you’re less likely to be disturbed by street-level noise, or noises coming from the hotel’s lobby or bar.
“You should also make sure to request a room that’s away from the lift, as this is also prone to making noise that can keep you awake.”
So if you find yourself in a room on the ground floor, next to the lift – expect a noisy night ahead.
However, don’t go too high – a safety expert has said you should never go above the fourth floor.
Lloyd Figgins, a former soldier and now travel risk expert, told Sun Online Travel: “Biggest thing that is overlooked is the risk of fire.
“Make sure you are staying between the second and fourth stories of the hotel because fire department ladder rarely reach above fourth story.
“Anything below this is targeted by burglars.”
Being too hot can disrupt your sleep too, especially if you are in a hot country.
Martin has revealed some of his other top tips to get a better night sleep too – including how to use the air conditioning.
Martin added: “Being too hot or too cold can disrupt your sleep so try and pick a room that has an air conditioning system, so you are in control of the temperature.
“At least two hours before bed, set it to 15.6 to 19.4 degrees Celsius as this creates the perfect sleep environment.”
But even if you try your best, there is still a reason you are always tired on holiday.
Called leisure sickness, elevated stress levels were found to make the immune system less effective – which sounds about right when you’re tying everything up before you turn on your out of office.
