PESCADERO — A mountain lion was contained at Pescadero High School Wednesday morning after students and staff noticed the animal under a classroom desk.
At about 8:23 a.m., the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a mountain lion under a desk in a high school classroom, according to Det. Javier Acosta. Deputies arrived and located a young mountain lion under a desk in an English classroom. It had been contained and located by custodial staff before school started.
The lion was contained to the room while students were locked down in the other rooms, Acosta said. There was no danger to students and staff.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service was also called and was on scene forming a plan to remove the mountain lion from the classroom and return it to its natural habitat, according to authorities. Officials didn’t know how the animal entered the building.
