Sweetgreen, a restaurant that specializes in customized salad and grain bowls, has expanded its Bay Area presence.
The newest location opened this week in Walnut Creek, on Mount Diablo Boulevard. It’s the 10th in the Bay Area, and the first in Contra Costa County.
Sweetgreen’s menu changes more often than the seasons, and the emphasis is on sustainability and from-scratch preparations. Three new dishes are in the early summer lineup: Peach & Goat Cheese Salad (with cucumbers, basil, mint, toasted almonds, spring mix, shredded kale, balsamic vinaigrette); Summer Teriyaki Bowl (blackened chicken and veggies atop baby spinach and wild rice); and Pesto Summer Veggie side dish.
They join Sweetgreen’s always-popular Harvest Bowl, Kale Caesar, Guacamole Greens and the Hot Honey Chicken plate.
This 2,814-square-foot location — the space was formerly home to Anthropologie — seats 28 diners inside. An encased glass room inside is devoted to online orders and customer pickup.
For every meal sold on opening day, June 14, Sweetgreen donated one meal to the nonprofit White Pony Express for the county’s food insecure.
Details: Open from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily at 1556 Mt. Diablo Blvd., Walnut Creek. www.sweetgreen.com
