With 1,973 horsepower, the new Ford Pro Electric SuperVan has four-and-a-half times the power of the original, which way back in the ’70s essentially used the running gear of the brand’s GT40 racer.
With just a 50-kWh battery juicing four electric motors, the powertrain may sound simple, but the results are out of this world. The automaker claims it will hit 100 km/h in under two seconds, which is wild given the size and design of the van.
Let’s be real though, as much as Ford wants you to connect the dots between this electric SuperVan and the commercial Transit vans you see around town, the only similarity between the two is the floorpan. Everything else you see is made up of a steel space-frame and composite body panels. There’s a huge spoiler and aggressive-looking diffuser, while the interior features a full cage.

The whole project was secretly put together by Ford Performance with the help of electrified rally and racing specialists STARD, of Austria. The exterior design is all from Ford’s design studio in Cologne, Germany.
This is the fourth SuperVan ever made by Ford. The first one took inspiration (and parts) from the GT40, while the second generation was essentially a fiberglass van body draped over a V8-powered C100 race car. The last SuperVan arrived using a Cosworth HB V8, which powered legendary F1 cars from the early ‘90s.
As is tradition, the Electric SuperVan will tackle Goodwood’s famous hill climb this weekend, with championship-winning racing driver and electric motorsport specialist Romain Dumas at the helm.
