A six-year-old cancer sufferer and a charity founder who recently led a mission to rescue Ukranian orphans are to be honoured with awards for unsung heroes.

They are among those being recognised at the Daily Record Pride of Scotland Awards, in partnership with TSB, which celebrate ordinary people doing extraordinary things.

The red carpet ceremony on July 19 will be hosted for it’s third year on STV by Still Game star, Sanjeev Kohli, and Two Doors Down’s Elaine C. Smith, at the Assembly Rooms in Edinburgh.

A six-year-old cancer sufferer who had to endure treatment in isolation, and a charity founder who recently led a mercy mission to rescue Ukranian orphans from the war zone are among those being celebrated.

Others being honoured include a lone female police officer who bravely tackled a knife-wielding attacker and the youngest Scot suffering from motor neurone disease.

A host of famous Scots will turn out to honour the inspirational winners, including Lulu, John Hannah, Sam Heughan, Gordon Ramsay and Joe McFadden, while Wishaw musical duo Saint PHNX will deliver an exclusive performance.

Elaine C. Smith said: “It’s an honour to host the Pride of Scotland again and shine a light on unsung heroes from across this great nation.

“These heroes rarely seek attention, yet what they do changes and transforms the lives of others – whether that’s in one simple act or in a lifetime’s work.

“It’s going to be a magical evening and I’ve got my tissues at the ready as there is going to be a whole lot of greetin’ going on.”

Sanjeev Kohli said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be presenting the Pride of Scotland Awards with Elaine. I always love the opportunity to shine a light on people who genuinely deserve it, and there is no better place for that than Pride of Scotland.

“I can’t wait to meet the winners.”

The awards will be broadcast on STV on July 19.
