Major announcements dropped today at the DC Jim Lee and Friends San Diego Comic-Con panel.
Todd McFarlane and Greg Capullo announced their new Batman/Spawn #1, an all-new 48-page one-shot set to release on December 13. A reunion 28 years in the making since the release of Batman/Spawn War Devil, which DC will re-release on November 15.
Paul Dano finally discusses the fan-anticipated The Riddler Year One, an all-new look into the Riddler through the mind of Dano. Set to release this year on October 25, fans couldn’t contain their excitement as the Golden Globe Award-nominated actor and antagonist of The Batman shared details of his new six-issue Black Labeled limited series. Dano goes over how the unknown forensic accountant Edward Nashton becomes the Riddler, as well as a fantastic new cover and interior art for its debut from acclaimed artist Stevan Subic. Fans at the panel received a con exclusive enamel pin of The Riddler: Year One logo.
Jim and Milestone Media co-founder Denys Cowan updated fans, discussing the completed Milestone Initiative Talent Development Summit. Announcing that on October 4 writer Vita Ayala and breakthrough artist Nikolas Draper-Ivey are telling new stories featuring Milestone’s flagship superhero Static in their all-new comic Static: Shadows of Dakota, a follow-up to Static: Season. Fans were also shown Milestones’ first-ever young adult graphic novel, Static: Up All Night debuting Summer 2023.
Finally, Cowen alongside Jim Lee announced Milestone Media’s own Max documentary, Milestone Generations, chronicling the history of Milestone Media and its trailblazing legacy as the first Black-owned superhero comic book publisher and its partnership with DC. It’s set to debut on July 29.
DC Editor-in-Chief Marie Javins was presented the Prestigious Inkpot Award for 2022 from the director of programming of SDCC, Eddie Ibrahim. This award is only presented to individuals for their contributions to the world of comics, sci-fi/fantasy, film, tv, animation, and fandom each year at SDCC.
