Bones McCoy was at his ruthless best when he stormed to an impressive victory in a race billed as the ‘Short-course Showdown’ at Mandurah last Friday night.
The star chaser from Glen Currie’s kennels made it look easy against a quality field, which included the red hot Rage On Zatara, in the 405m Free To All.
Bones McCoy came into the race on the back of five straight wins but he conceded favouritism to Rage On Zatara, a greyhound that had won his previous seven attempts and had recently broken the 302m track record, which had stood for six years.
After a moderate start from box two, Bones McCoy took a couple of strides to find top gear but then he surged to the front along the rail and didn’t look back.
Rage On Zatara emerged from the pack as the lead pursuer but he couldn’t make up ground as Bones McCoy set a cracking pace on the lure.
Bones McCoy kicked away in the home straight to score by more than four lengths in a very slick 22.35.
The classy black speedster has now racked up 33 wins from 67 starts and pushed his career prizemoney past $138,000.
In other racing on the night, Nambeelup-based trainer Corey White scored a treble with Who Told Spider, Poppa Monno and Entry Level.
Poppa Monno overcame a poor start to charge home and claim the 490m Free To All while Entry Level collected back-to-back wins for the first time in his career with his success in the 490m Grade 5.
