Em Clarkson is one of our favourite Instagrammers because she never shies away from saying it how it is; even hailing herself a ‘professional oversharer’.
Whether she’s baring her body in all its glory or speaking candidly on her podcast about her greatest body hangups, Em Clarkson is certainly the healthy dose of realism our social media feeds needs.
That’s why her latest Instagram reel, which reveals exactly how your favourite influencers and celebrities could be digitally alerting their body, has gone viral. The video, which shows Em running through a video editing app and cinching in her waist, widening her hips and making herself appear taller, is captioned: “It’s very very easy to manipulate so although it all went a bit wobbly when I moved, if I’d have done it in front of a white wall and been clever enough about it, you’d literally have no way of knowing! Compare with caution!!!”

‘I think by now we’re aware that video editing software exists,” she begins. “But I think something that we don’t quite appreciate is the extend of it.”
Em then begins editing her body using the app, whilst telling her followers exactly which body parts she’s enhancing.
“I can stand here right now in front of you with my real body but I can also use an app to make my waist slimmer, I can make my hips wider, I can make my boobs bigger, I can grow and get a little taller, I can make my legs slimmer, I can even change my neck and shoulders and then I can move around..” she says as she starts walking around on screen with her ‘new’ body.
She goes on to explain: “I can exist on your screen portraying a body I don’t own. I can even change my face, I can change the structure of it, the color of my eyes,” as she edits her skin tone and eye hue.
“I can be anything I want to be using apps – and I don’t have to tell you.”
The body-positive influencer concludes her thought-provoking video by saying: “So please let this be a reminder: the next time you feel insecure because you’ve seen something on Instagram, that it is very easy to manipulate the image.”

We need to protect everyone from this new world of real life distorted avatars,” wrote Jodie Kidd, whilst Steph Wood wrote: “Had no idea that you could do this to videos as well as photos ???? bloody terrifying.”
