[Update: August 8 @ 2:45 PM ET]: Last week, Polygon confirmed that Activision has removed the Loyal Samoyed — Floof Fury — skin from Warzone and Vanguard. In a message to Polygon, Activision stated that it ‘regrettably we erred in our process’ and apologized.
The original story, posted on August 1, is as follows.
Most battle royale games have in-game stores that allow you to purchase items and customize your profile or weapons. In Call of Duty multiplayer and Warzone, you can purchase bundles containing operator skins, weapon blueprints, calling cards, emblems, and much more. Call of Duty has even featured crossovers with franchises such as Godzilla vs King Kong and an upcoming Terminator crossover. With Season Four Reloaded, even more skins were revealed, but one has caused some controversy. The Floof Fury skin is under fire, as an artist has accused Activision of plagiarizing their work.
The artist known as Saillin first posted the concept skin to ArtStation back in December 2019. Recently, Staillin took to Twitter to identify the similarities between their work and the Warzone skin. It’s safe to say that there are a lot of similarities.
Call of Duty: Warzone Floof Fury skin vs original art
Upon first glance, the most noticeable similarity is that the Warzone Floof Fury operator skin is also a dog. However, if you take a closer look there are even more features that look to be the same. This includes the satchel bag on the hip and a scarf around the neck. Even the color scheme of the skin closely resembles Saillin’s work.
Understandably, the artist wasn’t happy to see their work allegedly plagiarized by Activision. They note that they are a Call of Duty player themselves and that they reached out to Activision for a response. Since then, Saillin has updated the tweet to say that they have been contacted by Activision, and they hope to have a result soon.
Call of Duty fans were quick to show support for the artist and join the call for Activision to resolve the situation. Time will tell if the upcoming Warzone Floof Fury skin ends up releasing.
Activision has contacted me, and I hope to have a result as soon as possible. Thank you for your concern. https://t.co/cOwlXKdtFt
