Green Day came home. SZA overcame COVID to shine. Post Malone came with jokes about his own music. Jack Harlow came with a band.
And an expected 225,000 music lovers turned up at Golden Gate Park for the three-day Outside Lands music festival over the weekend.
Those who did not want to leave the comfort of their homes were able to livestream portions of the event through a partnership with Twitch.
Organizers brought the festival back in person on its traditional August dates this year after pandemic-era deviations that included a full cancellation in 2020 and rescheduling to October last year. Bay Area-based Another Planet Entertainment, Charlottesville’s Starr Hill Presents and New York agency Superfly also summoned Mitski, Weezer, Phoebe Bridgers, Lil Uzi Vert, Larry June, Washed Out and Best Coast for their 13th rendition of the festival.
The three companies have collaborated since 2008 to realize the region’s premiere music exhibition, which featured 90 artists performing on six stages and its largest ever food and wine lineup from August 5 to 7. People certainly seemed happy to be back in Golden Gate Park, flashing big smiles and sharing plenty of hugs as they grooved to the music and enjoyed the many food and drink offerings at the festival.
Here are images of the highlights of dozens of daily acts across multiple stages.
