During the recent THQ Nordic Digital Showcase, the publisher teased a new South Park game, whilst also stating they have 25 other unannounced projects still in the works. A message at the end of the live stream stated that the publisher has 26 unannounced titles being developed, before scribbling out the number and changing it to 25. A brief teaser for a new South Park game was then shown.
Despite the fact that THQ still has plenty of unannounced games in development, their Digital Showcase Event did not disappoint fans. The hour-long event gave fans a sneak peek at previously announced titles such as Destroy All Humans! 2: Reprobed and Way of The Hunter, as well as completely new announcements for Alone In The Dark, SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake, and more.
However, a brief teaser for a new South Park game is what really took fans by surprise. There are practically no details to share on what the game could focus on, aside from the very brief teaser that was shown at the end of the showcase. One can assume that given the fact that it was simply a teaser, development is likely in the very early stages.
The last major South Park game to release was back in 2017 when Ubisoft released South Park: The Fractured But Whole, which was a sequel to 2014’s South Park: The Stick Of Truth. Both titles received positive reviews from critics and fans, but whether or not THQ will stick to the RPG genre of the previous games is still unclear.
South Park creators, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, recently revealed they would be working on a new ‘3D video game’, as reported by Bloomberg. But whether or not THQ’s upcoming project is the same one announced by Parker and Stone has yet to be confirmed. If it is, fans can likely expect an incredibly different approach compared to the recent RPG titles.
Fans can check out the short teaser below, or catch the full THQ Nordic Showcase in the video above.
