Thomas Tuchel reviews Chelsea’s 4-0 win against Juventus

Chelsea are riding high in the Premier League and after booking their place in the next round of the Champions League, attention can now turn to the all-important January transfer window.

Thomas Tuchel’s side have been linked with a number of reported targets, while with several players potentially set to leave next summer when their contracts expire negotiations to extend those deals will now be looked at as a priority.

Making it to the knockout phase of the Champions League brings a tidy cash windfall, which the club may well use to make a ‘monster’ offer for star Juventus man Federico Chiesa.

Another winger may have to leave the club to make space in Thomas Tuchel’s squad, although one defender looks set to stay.

Pulisic to leave?

According to reports, both Barcelona and Liverpool have been told that American winger Christian Pulisic is available for any club willing to stump up £42million.

Pulisic has not been a first-team regular under Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea, having struggled with a number of injuries, and he may be looking to move on elsewhere.

Spanish publication El Nacional now reports that the player’s price has been set ahead of the January transfer window.

Agreement ‘imminent’

One player who now looks destined to stay at Stamford Bridge is Thiago Silva.

Thiago Silva’s contract is due to expire next summer, but UOL columnist Bruno Andrade has reported that ‘the first contacts’ for a new deal have been made, and an agreement between club and player ‘is imminent’.

The 37-year-old appears set to be handed a one-year contract extension after gaining the trust of manager Thomas Tuchel.

The Brazilian defender is said to want to return to his boyhood club Fluminense one day, with the report stating he could make the move in 2023.

‘Monster’ bid readied

The Blues are set to make a ‘monster’ £84million bid for Juventus forward Federico Chiesa, according to reports.

Chelsea have repeatedly been linked with the Italy international, who impressed during his country’s successful Euro 2020 campaign last summer.

According to Calciomercato, Thomas Tuchel’s side ‘have shown interest’ in Chiesa and are ‘ready to make an important investment’ to acquire his services.

Chiesa may well have been the focus of conversation between club officials when the Blues beat Juve 4-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
