John Fury says Jake Paul refused to sign up to drug testing

Jake Paul has “big advantages” over Tommy Fury in size, strength, and power according to head coach BJ Flores.

Paul, for the first time in his professional career, is heading into a fight as an underdog, with Fury having fought more than him in the paid and amateur ranks, and holding years more training.

The pair will meet at the Amalie Arena in Tampa on December 18, and Flores is confident that Paul will continue his winning start with a big victory over the Love Island star.

Fury’s older brother Tyson is the heavyweight champion of the world, while his cousin Hughie is also one of the best heavyweights in the world, but he has yet to live up to his surname.

And Flores insists that his fighter is not concerned about his opponent’s boxing pedigree, and is planning to attack the Brit from the first bell.

“Jake is a tireless worker,” Flores told Boxing Scene.

“He has zero fear of Tommy or his last name and that will be very obvious when the first bell sounds.

“This is a great fight between two young undefeated guys who are willing to lay it all on the line – a lot is at stake here.

“The Fury name is legendary and this is a very serious challenge to us. Massive credit to both fighters.”

Paul has sparred with some top light heavyweight and cruiserweight prospects in his camps to date, knowing that he has a lot of catching up to do to reach the level that his star-power requires.

His bout with Fury will be his third headlining pay-per-view of the year, having fought in the final days of 2020 as well on the Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr undercard.

And Flores says that he has held his own with highly touted professional boxers in his hundreds of sparring rounds.

“We are now less than five weeks away and the closer this thing gets, the happier Jake is,” Flores continued. “Jake has some big advantages in this matchup.

“Jake has been in the ring for hundreds of rounds with many top fighters in the country, quietly traveling all over the USA, sparring, gaining hundreds of necessary rounds to prepare him for a fight like this.

“The one thing consistent amongst all the sparring partners is this – Jake can really punch.

“Jake has been sparring with the top cruisers and light heavyweightss in America over the last 8 weeks and 24 months.

“He is ready to go right now. The key is just keeping him sharp and making sure he’s peaking on December 18.”

The event will also feature multiple-weight world champion Amanda Serrano against Miriam Guitierrez, and an outlandish match-up between American Football star Frank Gore and basketball player Deron Williams.
