According to the Houston Rockets, the team has recalled 19-year-old rookies Josh Christopher, Usman Garuba, and Daishen Nix from their NBA G League affiliate, Rio Grande Valley (RGV).
All three players have seen significant minutes with the Vipers, who are currently undefeated on the 2021-22 season at 8-0.
Rookie guard Josh Christopher, who was selected with the No. 24 overall pick out of Arizona State University in the 2021 NBA draft, was assigned to the Vipers on Nov. 24 to get more on-court minutes after playing sparingly in 11 games for the Rockets.
Forard Usman Garuba, who was also a part of Houston’s 2021 draft class, has appeared in five games this season for Rio Grande Valley and shot 76% from the field while pulling down 9.8 rebounds per game.
Unlike the other two recalls for the Rockets, guard Daishen Nix is on a two-way contract with the team and has played in all eight games for the Vipers. He has been an intricate part of their system, averaging 12.6 points per game to go along with 4.6 assists.
All three players may be available to play on Monday when the Rockets hosts Oklahoma City. With the Vipers off until Tuesday, Dec. 7, the recalls could also be a way of allowing each rookie to spend time with NBA coaches and at NBA facilities during RGV’s downtime.
