UFC 280: Belal Muhammad defeated Sean Brady.

Belal Muhammad defeated Sean Brady via TKO (strikes), Round 2 – 4:47 at UFC 280 on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2022, live from the Etihad Arena In Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

“Honestly, this was the hardest camp I ever worked. I never worked hard in my life. I felt I was disrespected, I was fighting down after beating two top-five guys… All I heard was Khabib saying finish him, and that’s what I did. That whole team is full of monsters… I’m blessed to be part of that team,” said Muhammad.

“I heard Leon Edwards is looking for a fight. I heard that the big bad wolf (Khamzat Chimaev) is coming down. I can fight at 179.8, it doesn’t matter. I just fought an undefeated guy,” said Muhammad when asked by Daniel Cormier who he would like to fight next.

Brady opened with three kicks as Muhammad pushed forward. Brady landed a right hand after a faint. Muhammad landed his own jab but was immediately answered by Brady. Muhammad briefly dropped but got up immediately. The two continued to trade kicks and punches. Brady went for a takedown but was easily stuffed by Muhammad. The two continued to trade with Muhammad landing an overhand right but Brady landing a counter. Muhammad landed a combination. Brady landed a powerful right hand but Muhammad came back with his own right hook. The two continued to trade back and forth with their strikes. A left hand from Brady opened up a cut near Muhammad’s eye.

Muhammad came forward and applied pressure to start the second round. The two continued to trade punches and kicks in the high-paced striking battle. Brady landed a strong combination. Muhammad’s strikes were leaving their mark on Brady’s nose, which was extremely red. Brady landed a big left hook but had his follow-up takedown blocked. Muhammad landed a right hook that hurt Brady. Muhammad continued to attack landing a combination that backed Brady up against the fence. Sensing a finish, Muhammad unleashed a fury of strikes. Brady tried to cover up but Muhammad’s pressure and unrelenting combinations were too much. With only seconds remaining, the referee stepped in and stopped the fight.

Muhammad arrived in Abu Dhabi unbeaten in his last eight fights, winning seven times. The lone fight that Muhammad did not win over that stretch was a no-contest against currently UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards. Following his knockout finish, Muhammad could be next in line for a welterweight title fight.

Brady entered UFC 280 as the UFC’s eighth-ranked welterweight, three spots behind Muhammad. In his last fight, Brady defeated Michael Chiesa, to improve his record to 15-0. After his first career loss, Brady will look to regroup and comeback in his next fight.
