The number two ranked team in the world drew 0-0 with Croatia in their final Group F game to crash out as Romelu Lukaku wasted numerous clear-cut chances in a nightmare display.
Morocco beat Canada in the other game in Group F to seal top spot, with Croatia going through as runners up.
There promises to be more drama this evening with Germany battling to stay in the tournament as they face Costa Rica while Group E rivals Japan and Spain go head-to-head for top spot.
