Projected college basketball rankings after Alabama upsets Gonzaga: Purdue takes No. 1, Duke falls to No. 4

Gonzaga has already lost more games than they did last season after getting upset by Alabama. What will the new college basketball rankings look like?

Ranked No. 1 in every preseason college basketball rankings, the Gonzaga Bulldogs were projected by many to not lose a game this season. Falling to Duke not long ago, however, wasn’t the end of the world as the Blue Devils are an elite team with top-end talent. However, it was quite a bit more shocking on Saturday when Mark Few’s Zags went down against Alabama.

The Crimson Tide continued a huge day for Tuscaloosa after the football team won the SEC Championship as they delivered an earth-shaking 91-82 win over the Bulldogs in Seattle for the high-profile matchup. Now, with Duke also losing this week, the college basketball rankings are about to get shaken up.

Here’s where Gonzaga, Duke, Alabama, Purdue and many others are set to end up in the Top 25 next week.

Projected college basketball rankings: Purdue at No. 1, Duke & Gonzaga fall

  1. Purdue Boilermakers
  2. Baylor Bears
  3. UCLA Bruins
  4. Duke Blue Devils
  5. Villanova Wildcats
  6. Texas Longhorns
  7. Kansas Jayhawks
  8. Kentucky Wildcats
  9. Arkansas Razorbacks
  10. Arizona Wildcats
  11. Alabama Crimson Tide
  12. Gonzaga Bulldogs
  13. Tennessee Volunteers
  14. Houston Cougars
  15. UConn Huskies

Gonzaga almost surely has to fall out of the top 10 after this game and, frankly, they should be behind a Crimson Tide team that is already starting to show their upside.

As for outside of this game, Duke is going to drop but not too far after a loss to Ohio State, a team that should ultimately crack the back-end of the Top 25 this week. Moreover, BYU is going to drop from their spot in the top 15 after a loss this past week.

All told, though, it’s still early in the season and the Zags and Blue Devils should have plenty of chances to redeem themselves.
