For those in the South Florida area looking to mix up their dining routine, Bombay Darbar Indian Restaurant is a great place to start. While this part of Florida doesn’t offer much in terms high-end Indian cuisine, that’s just what makes this restaurant special. It offers a trendy, innovative mixology program serving beverages to pair perfectly with the spice of Indian dishes, as well as a large menu featuring authentic Indian dishes.

The extensive menu ranges from vegetable entrees that are served with papadum, chutney and basmati rice; to chicken, lamb or seafood dishes with customizable spice levels. Tasty vegetable dishes include the classic saag paneer, an Indian cheese, simmered in a mixture of fresh spinach, onions, tomatoes, ginger, garlic and Indian spices, as well as the aloo gobi, a dish of cauliflower and chunky potatoes sautéed with fresh herbs.

Bombay Darbar boasts its use of fresh ingredients, which include vegetables, meats, and imported Indian sauces and spices. Also good to note? They cook their “masalas” daily. The restaurant hires much of its cooking staff from India to ensure they quakity of their food remains as authentic as possible. Moreover, Bombay Darbar is known for it’s lively, energetic ambiance and as a great place for date night or a night on the town.

Popular lamb dishes include lamb chop masala, in which they take their famous tandoori lamb chops, and additionally cook it in a masala sauce with onions, tomatoes, ginger, garlic, cumin, coriander and spices; and the lamb vindaloo with potatoes cooked with vinegar in spicy sauce.

When it comes to chicken dishes, there’s a great selection that includes the classic tikka masala with boneless chicken breast cooked in creamy tomato sauce, crushed cashew nuts, onions, and bell peppers; and the butter chicken, marinated and cooked in creamy tomato and cashew nut sauce.

For those that enjoy seafood, these same dishes can be made with fish or shrimp. A great dish is the fish goan curry, which includes shrimp or fish cooked with onion, coconut milk and herbs Goa style.

Diners who really want the full experience can order off the Clay Oven/ Tandoor menu, where each sizzling dish is served on a hot bed of onion and bell peppers, served with basmati rice. Families and large groups can order the whole (or half) tandoori chicken which is marinated in yogurt, ginger, garlic and freshly ground spices then cooked in clay oven or there’s the tandoori lamb chops, shrimp or chicken tikka.

And of course no meal is complete without freshly baked nann and roti coming straight our of Bombay Darbar’s tandoor clay oven. The menu offers a selection that ranges from garlic naan to peshawari naan, which is stuffed with a combination of mixed nuts and raisins. Guests can further round a traditional Indian feast with biryani — a flavorful basmati rice cooked with Indian herbs, nuts raisins and spices and a selection of protein.

Owners Anil Agrawal, Sunil Agrawal, and Solomon Hwang were regulars at the original Bombay Darbar in Miami, which opened in 2011, and saw the potential to grow the restaurant brand. Hwang, in particular, has over 20 years of experience as being a restaurant owner, many in the greater New York area. In 2019, the trio opened a second location in the in the hip corridor of Las Olas Blvd in Fort Lauderdale.
