Tyson Fury wants step-aside decision from Anthony Joshua by next weekend

Joshua is due to face Oleksandr Usyk next spring after losing his titles to the Ukrainian in September, but Fury wants to step in and face him in an undisputed clash

Will Tyson Fury end up in WWE?

Tyson Fury has given Anthony Joshua an eight-day deadline for his decision on whether to step aside from his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk or not.

Eddie Hearn confirmed talks are ongoing for Joshua to step aside from the fight to allow an undisputed title showdown between Fury and Usyk, but insisted it would take at least £40million.

Joshua lost his heavyweight titles to Usyk in September and triggered his rematch clause with the Ukrainian shortly after.

The second fight is still being targeted to take place at Wembley next spring – but Fury is pushing to be allowed to face Usyk instead of WBC mandatory challenger Dillian Whyte.

And Fury’s co-promoter Frank Warren says they “ideally” need Joshua’s decision by next week.

“Everybody wants to see the undisputed fight between Tyson and Usyk. That’s between two undefeated fighters with all four of the belts,” he said on his Queensbury Promotions YouTube channel.

“Tyson Fury — the bigger man — against the guy who took Anthony Joshua to school. That is the massive fight. The only thing that stands in the way of that is AJ.

“He has done an interview where he has stated, ‘I am a businessman’, and when someone says that, the question is ‘how much?’.

“One thing for sure is that we need to decide before Christmas, ideally within the next seven or eight days.”

Hearn has changed his tune on the fight after initially telling Fury’s other promoter Bob Arum the rematch is ” none of his f******” business “.

Usyk’s promoter Alex Krassyuk recently admitted the former cruiserweight king would “be happy” to fight Fury for the undisputed heavyweight title should Joshua step aside.

Fury threatened to sack his promoters last month if they are unable to secure him a return to the ring by next February.

And Warren says even if Hearn and Joshua don’t budge they will still make a fight for Fury by next March.

“If that doesn’t happen then we will make a UK fight for Tyson in March and that could be Dillian Whyte, Joe Joyce or anyone else that Tyson decides upon,” he continued.

“One part he is talking about how important his sporting legacy is but in the next breath he is saying he is a businessman, with businessmen it is always about money.

“If he takes the deal then he doesn’t have to face Usyk again, straight away, in a fight I think Usyk is the favourite. He can instead go into an undisputed fight with the winner.”
