Do you live in one of Scotland’s coolest neighbourhoods?
NOT one but TWO Scots areas have made this year’s top list of ‘coolest’ places to live in the UK.
The Telegraph asked its readers to vote for their favourite places – and Glasgow’s Finnieston and Edinburgh’s Stockbridge are considered some of Britain’s trendiest hot spots for 2022.
Finnieston, the “go-to hipster hub” known for its independent eateries and the “creativity and energy” from the well heeled west-end community, came in at number three overall.
A far cry from its shipbuilding past, greater Argyle Street is the place to eat before a gig at the Hydro or a peek down the Hidden Lane for a quirky range galleries and studios.
Try The Finnieston, the Gannet, Crabshakk or Six By Nico for some fancy fayre – or visit Velvet Moon to pick up some gifts to take home.
Meanwhile on the east coast, Edinburgh’s Stockbridge charted at number seven – described as “compact and prosperous,” the shopping and food is to die for.
Grams, The Pantry and The Pastry Section were all recommended as a place to stop by.
There are three independent book shops to browse through too.
The top 15 coolest neighbourhoods in the UK are:
- Walthamstow, London
- Ancoats, Manchester
- Finnieston, Glasgow
- Kelham Island, Sheffield
- Cathedral Quarter, Belfast
- Baltic Triangle, Liverpool
- Stockbridge, Edinburgh
- Ouseburn, Newcastle
- Meanwood, Leeds
- Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham
- North Laine, Brighton
- Pontcanna, Cardiff
- Wapping Wharf, Bristol
- East Oxford, Oxford
- Walcot, Bath
We told previously how an ‘underated’ Scottish area has been crowned the best holiday destination for 2023, according to Good Housekeeping.
The lifestyle magazine rated different areas across the globe and named Aberdeenshire the best spot for a holiday.
It beat all comers and even pushed Aruba and the Swiss Alps off the list to take the top gong.
The magazine, which has been running for more than 100 years, found that the north-eastern region was full of exciting things to do.
And it’s royal connections and incredible sights added to the enjoyable experience, making it the top destination in the UK.
Good Housekeeping said Aberdeenshire enjoys a “glorious coastline packed with wildlife to majestic mountains and dramatic rivers that rival those of Canada.”
