Sharks, SAP Center to enforce new COVID requirements for kids this week

SAN JOSE – Starting Thursday, kids ages 3 to 11 will need to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have proof of a negative test no more than 72 hours old to attend Sharks or Barracuda games, or any other event at SAP Center.

The mandate by the State of California and City of San Jose on mega-events had been in effect since Nov. 18, but this is the first week the directive will be enforced.

The Sharks have 30 home dates left after Tuesday’s game with the Calgary Flames, starting with games against the Minnesota Wild on Thursday and Joe Pavelski and the Dallas Stars on Saturday. Both games are at 7:30 p.m.

The Barracuda, with Evander Kane, play the Abbotsford Canucks on Saturday and Sunday at 1:15 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively.

Arena guests ages 12 and older are still required to show proof of full vaccination upon entry. Vaccines are not yet available to 3- and 4-year-olds in California, so those children will have to show proof of a negative test within the last 72 hours, as will those who are unable to receive a vaccine.

The requirements will remain until state and local health and safety guidance is revised.

Mega-events are defined by the state as being crowds of 1,000 or more indoors and crowds greater than 10,000 outdoors.

Sharks Sports & Entertainment will have free on-site COVID-19 testing at SAP Center. Tests will begin approximately one hour before doors are scheduled to open on the day of the event. For 7:30 p.m. games, for example, testing will be available starting at 5:30 p.m.
