‘Landmark’ WA tavern to allow patrons to ORDER IN local food

A developer behind plans for a “landmark brewhouse” in Bassendean wants to break from tradition by allowing customers to order and eat food on site from nearby restaurants.

Landowners Lorena Rossi Saint and Alia Nikoloski have lodged plans with the Town of Bassendean to build a bar, lounge, staff office, two alfresco areas and a 330sqm microbrewery at 73 Old Perth Road.

The existing building on-site will be retained and redeveloped into the proposed facility.

The tavern will serve its own beverages, including its own unique draught to be brewed at the venue, while two on-site food truck parking bays are proposed to be built on-site in the absence of a kitchen.

According to a Harley Dykstra report, written on behalf of the landowners, patrons will be able to order food from a variety of food trucks parked on-site, which will rotate through and operate in tandem with the tavern.

“Not only will this progressive model help to foster strong relationships with local businesses and stimulate economic activity in the town centre, but ultimately it will contribute to an enhanced sense of local identity and pride by providing a space where the community feels welcome,” the report said.

Customers would have the option of ordering food from nearby restaurants using QR codes that will be integrated throughout the proposed alfresco and seating areas at the venue.

Food can be delivered and consumed on site as part of a joint agreement between local business owners.

What local Bassendean hospitality venues would form part of that agreement remains unknown but the site is in close proximity to The Old Trout, 8 Napkins Burger, Burgers on Fire and 8 Slice Pizzeria.

The property is currently vacant on its northern side with the remainder currently accommodating parking.

The report said approval of the development would see the construction of a “landmark brewhouse”.

“This valuable addition to the neighbourhood will act as a significant attractor for local residents, drawing them into the area and enhancing economic and social activity while serving as a valuable meeting point for the wider community,” it said.

The plans are currently out for public comment until January 20, 2023.
