Kentucky fan gets thrown out of Rupp for sign torching John Calipari

It hasn’t been an ideal season for John Calipari and the Kentucky Wildcats, and the Hall of Famer isn’t taking criticism well.

The Wildcats lost their second straight game in SEC play on Tuesday night, this time to the lackluster South Carolina Gamecocks. Kentucky is reeling, and if they don’t fix matters soon it’ll be tough to make up ground in a crowded conference.

UK fans are notoriously tough to please, especially in this era of one-and-done and now NIL/transfer portal. With so much talent available, why shouldn’t a true blue blood like the school which resides in Lexington compete on a national level year in and year out?

Kentucky fans want John Calipari to leave

Kentucky fans are upset with Calipari, with some even calling for his retirement and/or dismissal. Cal has signed a lifetime contract with the Wildcats, so breaking that vow would contain a massive buyout from the school’s perspective, and would hamstring their ability to find a replacement. For Calipari, there’s no reason for him to admit defeat if he still feels he has something left to give.

That won’t stop fans from asking nicely, though.

That enthusiastic supporter was reportedly thrown out of the arena, per Matt Jones of Kentucky Sports Radio. It’s an entirely harsh statement by the University that they will not tolerate any signage detracting from Calipari’s overall success in Lexington.

Calipari does have quite a track record, but his success of late is limited. Kentucky hasn’t won a National Title since 2012, and last made the Final Four in 2015. Last season’s tournament appearance included an embarrassing first-round defeat at the hands of St. Peters.

Nothing against the Peacocks memorable run, but Kentucky fans expect better. If the likes of Duke and North Carolina can adjust to a new era in college basketball, the Wildcats should be right behind them.
