Sonic Frontiers Sold 2.9m Copies Worldwide Since Release

Sonic Frontiers, the blue hedgehog’s latest venture into the world of 3D, which brought open zone gameplay and a blast from the past with Cyberspace stages, has managed to become a massive success. The game has been reported to have sold over 2.9 million copies worldwide ever since it was released in November.

This factoid comes from SEGA’s latest earnings report from April to December 2022. The company reported that net sales have increased by 14.9% year-on-year to 271bn yen. SEGA also reported that Sonic Frontiers’ massive sales were also helped by Persona 5’s multiplatform release, which also saw strong sales with 1.3m units sold worldwide.

Sonic Frontiers was one of the heavy hitters for the company, of course. However, the company is still looking forward to the future with games such as Like a Dragon: Ishin! and Company of Heroes 3 coming. Additionally, SEGA has confirmed that its next round of financials will include the release of Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden, which recently became accessible to other platforms.

Here are some additional highlights from the latest SEGA Earnings Report:

It’s also worth noting that despite other releases such as Football Manager and Two Point Campus, the titles from SEGA’s catalog were “sluggish” compared to Sonic and Persona. Meanwhile, SEGA also announced that its Free to Play ventures have received a positive impact and performed steadily as a whole. The center of these strong sales comes from Project Sekai Colorful Stage feat. Hatsune Miku. The other titles that have managed to perform well in terms of sales were Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis and SEGA Pocket Club Manager.

Sonic Frontiers will still see a strong push over the course of the year. The game will receive new content, which includes the addition of new modes, new Koco, and even more story content for players to take part in. Sonic Frontiers is currently available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
