Aussie drag powerhouses and Rupaul’s Drag Race Down Under divas Art Simone and Etcetera Etcetera are hitting the road in 2022 for their national tour, As Seen on TV.
Perth is the last stop on the bill and the pair are inviting everyone along for the “Priscilla fantasy” ride at The Royale Theatre at Planet Royale on July 18.
“We wish we could have a bus but we need to be a lot quicker than that. So we have upgraded, we’re going to be flying an aeroplane, which is very exciting,” Art told Confidential.
Etcetera added: “We asked Qantas if we could strap a giant shoe on top of one of their jumbo jets. But they said it would do something to the aerodynamics.”
With 15 years of drag under their corsets, the pair will bring all the drama of your favourite soap opera and the glamour of a late-night infomercial straight to your backyard.
“As seen on TV is really our exploration of our love of pop culture through television,” Etcetera said.
“TV is such a big part of people growing up in our culture, we really just want to reference a lot of that wacky TV energy that has integrated into this sense of humour in Australia.”
From The Muppets, The Ferals and the hair and makeup of our TV stars, there’s no shortage of talent that take their cues from drag.
“Drag has always been part of Australian pop culture and on Australian TV. I mean look at Kerry Ann Kennelly,” Art said.
“We want to make fun of some of the maybe more flamboyant personalities on TV.”
In addition to the live show, the duo will also hold an intimate pre-show Drag 101 workshop at Connections on July 16.
“You don’t often get the opportunity to have to drag queens captive in a room and ask them any questions,” Etcetera said.
