After nearly two full years out of the league, Meyers Leonard is reportedly getting another NBA opportunity.
Leonard will be signing a 10-day contract with the Milwaukee Bucks, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Leonard last played in an NBA game with the Miami Heat on January 9, 2021.
On March 9 of that year, the veteran big man was released after footage surfaced of him using an anti-Semitic slur on a video game livestream.
“I feel like I’m living in a bad dream,” Leonard told Jeremy Schaap of ESPN’s “Outside the Lines” in a recent interview about his desire to get back in the NBA. “… There’s not a hateful cell in my body. And I know that I made a huge, huge mistake.”
Before he was dismissed, Leonard’s 2020-21 season had already been terminated early due to shoulder surgery. He also underwent ankle surgery in April 2021, during which it was uncovered he had nerve damage in his right leg.
A first-round pick of the Portland Trail Blazers in 2012, Leonard also reportedly worked out for the Los Angeles Lakers recently. In 447 career NBA games, he owns averages of 5.6 points and 3.9 rebounds per outing.
Leonard’s signing will no doubt be met with plenty of backlash. We’ll see how long he can stick in Milwaukee.
