In
season
16
of
IPL,
ten
teams
will
battle
in
double
round-robin
home
and
away
format
in
the
league
stage
with
the
top
four
teams
heading
into
the
playoffs
–
Eliminator,
two
Qualifiers
and
the
Final.
Unlike
the
previous
three
editions
that
were
impacted
by
COVID
pandemic,
IPL
2023
will
return
to
the
original
home
and
away
format
with
all
ten
teams
playing
their
home
matches
at
their
home
venues.
A
total
of
74
matches
will
be
played
across
12
venues.
While
the
league
phase
concludes
on
May
21,
the
Eliminator,
Qualifier
and
finals
will
be
concluded
by
May
28.
All
the
ten
teams
had
finalized
their
squads
during
the
IPL
Auction
2023
in
December
2022.
And
most
franchises
also
had
revealed
their
captains
for
the
season
except
for
Sunrisers
Hyderabad,
who
named
Aiden
Markram
as
their
skipper.
Meanwhile,
Delhi
Capitals
suffered
a
blow
when
star
player
and
skipper
Rishabh
Pant
met
with
an
accident
in
late
December
2022,
ruling
him
out
of
action
for
an
indefinite
period.
So,
DC
also
will
name
a
new
skipper
for
the
upcoming
season
with
David
Warner
and
Axar
Patel
expected
to
takeover
the
reigns.
Like
the
captains,
most
franchises
have
also
announced
their
coaching
and
backroom
staff
for
the
upcoming
edition
of
the
cash-rich
league.
Punjab
Kings
will
have
a
new
face
leading
the
teams
as
well
as
coaching
the
side.
Kolkata
Knight
Riders
also
brought
in
a
new
coach
following
Brendon
McCullum’s
move
to
the
England
Test
team.
Mahendra
Singh
Dhoni
starts
another
season
as
captain
of
Chennai
Super
Kings
after
taking
over
the
role
mid-way
through
last
season.
Mumbai
Indians
also
have
roped
in
Mark
Boucher
as
their
head
coach,
while
Sunrisers
has
promoted
Brian
Lara
as
the
head
coach
following
the
resignation
of
former
coach
Tom
Moody.
