After a period of rapid expansion over the last few years, Apple and its suppliers have directly supplied 100,000 new jobs to the India workforce just in the last 19 months — and more are coming.

In 2021, it was reported both that Apple had directly created around 20,000 new jobs in India, and that overall it supported around a million roles across the country.

Now according to Indian technology site Inc42, since August 2021, Apple has become the largest single job creator in the nation’s electronics sector, with 100,000 new positions. August 2021 is when India launched a job-creation project called the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme.

Of the new total, some 62% was created within Apple’s contract suppliers, Foxconn, Pegatron, and Wistron.

Between them, they have created 62,300 jobs and Inc42 notes that this is 7,000 more than they committed to as part of PLI.

Foxconn added most jobs, at 35,500, while Pegatron created 14,000, and Wistron generated 12,800 new positions. Each firm is also expected to add some thousands of more jobs by the end of the financial year.

Alongside these three, Apple suppliers in India have added approximately 40,000 new jobs in the last 19 months. The include Salcomp, which has added 11,000 posts.

Salcomp’s moves follow its plans to double its India workforce to 25,000 by 2026.
