With homes across Miami and Mexico, the Argentine-born Carolina Kleinman lives the nomadic lifestyle embodied in her lifestyle brand, Carolina K. The Latinex designer exudes the samee spirit of wanderlust and transcendence as her ethically sourced kaftans, linen sets, breezy, soulful dresses and kimonos. You could just picture yourself wearing these garments across Central and South America, through Morocco and in any warm weather bohemian enclave.
Born from the cultural influences of her family’s Argentine and Bolivian roots, and with an aesthetic reflective of the artisans with whom Kleinman works across Mexico, Peru and India, the Carolina K label is an uplifting, culturally rich assortment of womenswear that exudes the travel spirit. We sat down with Kleinman to talk just that – travel – from her favorite hidden gem hotels to her airplane wardrobe.
Carolina K Travel Intel:
My go-to airline is: Air France or Emirates.
My favorite seat on the flight is: First row, window seat.
My go-to in-flight beverage is: Mint tea or any herbal tea.
My favorite airport/terminal is: Marrakesh Menara Airport.
The second I get on a plane, I: Remove my shoes, put a pillow behind my back and get my book or Kindle out and headphones on, so I can finally read or watch something and get some quiet alone time.
My go-to travel uniform is: I like to travel comfortably so I usually wear my Carolina K suit or pajamas of the season. Last time I wore the Luna Jacket and Paloma Pants with sea embroidered elements in tencel fabric which is super soft, and our organic cotton The Present is Handmade cotton t-shirt. It’s very convenient for the plane. I always wear my Tachyon necklace for EMF protection with a pair of comfortable lace-up sneakers.
My carry-on consists of: My laptop computer in one of our pinatex pineapple made computer cases. I also have my personal jewelry organized in little boxes and pouches, a book, my Kindle, a tiny moisturizer kit for my hands, water spray to refresh on the go, calming oil, an extra change of clothes, lip balm, probiotics, tea bags, a mate and straw and chamomile flowers. I usually bring sketches of our upcoming collections, sometimes I like to sketch and review upcoming collections on the plane.
The pieces I take EVERYWHERE are: My charm necklaces with an amethyst stone that withholds the star of David and is programmed by a healer. I also like to bring versatile clothing pieces like our Sera Jumpsuit, which is a classic that works for day and night, my feather earrings, a Kimono, which is a great versatile piece as a go-out or stay-in style, a bodysuit for my yoga classes or a swim and my bronco hat. I love traveling with our Lena Dress, which is very comfortable and perfect for traveling since it doesn’t wrinkle.
My flying soundtrack is: It changes with the seasons, but right now I’ve been listening to ‘Adam’ by Sabina Sciubba, “Adios” by Benjamin Clementine, ‘Caminar Sola” by Julieta Venegas and a lot of Argentinian music.
My favorite thing about flying is: Unplugging from the world, having time to reflect, read, and reset my energy.
The worst part about flying is: The airport delays, crowds of people and the food.
My one flying hack is: Always take my own reusable water bottle and pack my own little snacks.
The second I land, I: Say a prayer and think about all of the adventures ahead.
As soon as I check into my hotel room, I: Try to get organized – I hang everything in the closet and take out all my things – my mate cup, straw and I fold my shawls and put them in some of the room furniture. I always try to make the room feel like home.
My favorite hotel in the world is: Peacock Pavilions in Marrakech.
My favorite cities in the world are: Cusco, Oaxaca and Buenos Aires. I can’t pick one!
A concierge will know that I prefer: To read a newspaper and get a tea pot with hot water in the AM for my morning yoga routine with my mate cup.
My favorite hotel memory is: My husband and I discovered a little hotel a few years ago. After a Temazcal in Cuernavaca, we spontaneously jumped in the car and drove from Tepoztlan to Acapulco without anything with us. We stopped for toothbrushes and swimsuits on the way and drove for about four hours until we ended up in this random hotel called Villa Bahia Ancha, in Barra de Coyuca – maybe 45 minutes from Acapulco. The hotel has only eight themed rooms and the owner had the best taste. The beach there is perfect. It’s at the intersection of where the ocean meets this amazing lake. It’s so laid back, simple and private. The food is super fresh and everything about it was magical.
I conquer jetlag by: Doing meditation and taking a hot bath before bed.
My biggest piece of travel advice is: Travel light when possible and enjoy the ride. Listening to music, reading and writing will always save you in case of delays or any unpredictable situations and stay calm at all times.
