The latest Marvel Studios movie lost its top spot to Michael B. Jordan’s directorial debut, Creed III.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania continues to drop at the box office. Despite the fact that the third part of the trilogy starring Paul Rudd had a good start after its debut, as the days went by, it was losing strength against its opponents and was gradually sinking.
On a weekend when Creed III is sweeping theaters, Ant-Man 3 continues to lose viewers dramatically. Compared to last week, Box Office Mojo reports the Payton Reeds film is down 61%, totaling $12M at the domestic box office.
For its part, the new installment of the Rocky saga reached $58.6M domestically, added to a $41.8M global haul, establishing a new record within its own trilogy.
There is no doubt that the criticism is having a substantial impact on both productions. Currently, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has a 47% approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, with 86% from audiences. In comparison, Creed III has 87% from critics and 96% from the public, a massive difference from its competitor.
Another strong contender for the weekend is Universal Pictures’ action/comedy Cocaine Bear, which is holding steady at No. 3 after an unexpectedly strong debut. The top 5 is completed by Demon Slayer and Jesus Revolution, which left Avatar: The Way of Water out of the top for the first time since its debut.
Jonathan Majors Defends Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
Jonathan Majors is one of the top performers at the box office this month, starring in the highest-grossing two movies. However, he has had to come out to defend one of them due to the criticism that the Marvel Studios film continues to receive.
The actor put a damper on the negative feedback his official debut as the MCU’s next big villain, Kang, is receiving:
“It’s just people. They have an opinion. You always have an opinion. I’m no fool. I know these are people writing it. These aren’t my Yale professors or my drama teachers. These are people who have kids and they have a perspective, they have a religious upbringing or a lack thereof. They live in this town, or they want to be seen in this way or don’t want to be seen in this way.”
Majors also spoke about distinguishing his work from the rest of the project:
“I’m a performance within a story. One thing I will say to my team as we’re leaving a premiere if they’re reading reviews, I’ll say, ‘How’s the movie doing?’ I try to clean my plate and take care of my part. The response is: ‘You’re straight. You’re good. They like you.’ And they tell me about the movie. Sometimes the movie is also on that level, and sometimes [it’s not].”
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is playing in theaters now.
