Dwyane Wade’s daughter Zaya Wade makes runway debut in Paris

At just 15 years old, Zaya Wade is a star of Paris Fashion Week. The teen, daughter of Dwyane Wade and stepdaughter of Gabrielle Union, made her runway debut at Tuesday’s Miu Miu fashion show, showing off an olive dress, a matching jacket, and a brown handbag.

Dwyane, 41, and Union, 50, cheered on Zaya from the front row of the fashion show. In his Instagram Stories, Dwyane posted a video clip of himself hugging Zaya and chatting with her at the event.

The former NBA star also shared a Vogue supercut from the fashion show, which included footage of Zaya strutting her stuff while he and Union beamed from their seats next to the runway. “I’m not crying, you are,” he wrote.

Thomas Christos Kikis, the family’s stylist, raved about Zaya’s fashionable moment on Instagram, writing, “Tears in my eyes as I watched @zayawade make her debut at @miumiu today. Thank you @dwyanewade for your endless trust in my vision. And thank you @zayawade for showing me what it means to believe in yourself.”

The Miu Miu show came little more than a week after Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union accepted the President’s Award at the 54th NAACP Image Awards on Feb. 23. NAACP President and CEO Derrick Johnson told Variety that the couple was selected for the honor in recognition of their support of Zaya, who came out as transgender in 2020.

“Zaya, as your father, all I’ve wanted to do was get it right,” Wade said in the couple’s acceptance speech. “I’ve sat back and watched how gracefully you’ve taken on public scrutiny. And even though it’s not easy, I watched you walk out of that house every morning — as yourself. I admire how you’ve handled the ignorance in our world. I admire that you face [it] every day. To say that your village is proud of you, is an understatement.”

In the same speech, Union praised the NAACP for “[leading] us through over a century of relentless challenge, pain, triumph and change.”

She added that we are “at the foot of a very new era of activism, a new era that demands our collective answer to one simple question: Will we fight for some, or will we fight for all of our people?”

Earlier in the day, People reported that Los Angeles’ Supreme Court approved Zaya’s legal transition and name change. The teen’s legal name is now Zaya Malachi Airamis Wade.
