Sure those knitted frocks you’ve had on rotation recently have done you and your wardrobe proud, but may we present to you their next of kin: spring dresses. A do-it-all silhouette that ticks a whole host of boxes, a spring dress sits somewhere between jumper dresses and summer dresses.
Not 100% convinced you need one? The best spring dresses will work for all occasions, be versatile enough to dress up or down, and (perhaps most crucially) keep you warm when a breeze picks up or cool when the sun rears its head.
Fans of The Devil Wears Prada might suggest that a floral dress isn’t anything new for spring, but even Miranda Priestly would deem the flower prints found across the S/S 2023 collections of RIXO, Sister Jane and Zimmermann ‘groundbreaking’. That said, if botanical designs aren’t your bag, there are plenty of paired back and modest dress options on the market, too.
If you’re someone who looks to easy, throw-on outfits throughout the warmer months (who can blame you after a season of layering?), then staples like jeans, knitwear, blazers and shirts will likely no longer suffice. Spring dresses, however, are something you should make room for.
Sunny though its days may look, spring can often invite a chilly wind as its plus one, so keep long sleeves and midi or maxi hemlines in mind when browsing unless you want a side of goosebumps with your outfit.
